THE DREAM SAFARI is a project that Shirli and her business partner Ian Thompson have been developing. To embark on a Safari or Expedition through Southern Africa over a 6 month period– which takes media and guests on a specially tailored itinerary/route to some of the most exciting tourism destinations in Southern Africa.
The uniqueness
of this event is that it carries a strong patriotic and
conservation message through participation by members of the
public and media who fly in and out of key points to join
the ‘Safari’. Ideally 6 to 8 sponsored 4x4 vehicles will
embark on 4 different safaris each 3 to 4 weeks long at a
time, to make up The Dream Safari. Each leg is about 7 to
10 days long and will take guests through key areas of
Southern Africa such as Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia,
Mozambique and South Africa. Media and guests can choose to
join The Dream Safari for each of these legs by flying in or
out of main centres en route, but a full time guiding,
photographic and PR crew will drive each section of The
Dream Safari. Negotiations are in process for a regular
streaming online feature and for a Television Special on the
event. “We feel so much more can be done in the understanding of what conservation, the communities in the areas and the value of what tourism all bring to the table. Corporate companies need to start focusing more on sponsoring conservation, as much as they do on sport.”
